300$ 14" laptop for programing

Go to solution Solved by NannerBeans,

You won't be able to get an ultrabook but if you go used, you can get something decent. The T420 that was mentioned is a good option.

Hi all I'm a university student and I'm about to study programming this semester and I'm wondering if there is any viable option for a 300$ laptop for programing i want it to be small so i can pack it easy for my lectures and practice since my university computers are old.I don't need to be able to play the latest games or anything like that I actually don't need to be able to play any games since I have good PC.As I said I'm looking for portable 14ish inch laptop just good enough for programming and browsing. If it matters I will mostly study Java.

Back in 2009 for High School I bought a used HP business laptop for programming, lasted all 4 years of school and had a Core 2 Duo. Was about an 18 month old laptop for $250 where it's original sale price was nearly $1200.

I would check your local PC stores (I.e. Actual local stores, not Best Buy/Wal Mart/ etc.) first, then look for used laptops online if nothing pans out.
