Overclocking i3 6100

I found out that I can overclock a i3 6100, but what motherboard do I need for that? My budget isn't much higher then 100 dollars, please tell me what motherboard I should buy (please as cheap as possible)

Intel is disabling non-k overclocking on all motherboards. When the update releases (which it will have already for any motherboards that havent been bought, so its too late now), it will disable BCLK OC.

The ASRock Z170s are known to be the most optimal for it. But AFAIK other brands have the feature as well :)

How expensive are they?

More than $100. They've also received updates to disable non-K SKU overclocking.

The spelling for it is BCLK.

Get a Z170A from MSI. It's only around $99 on the US Amazon site. And it definately supports overclocking.

thnx!

As you have clearly ignored my own and @Oshino Shinobu's comments, I must say again

If you buy a new motherboard, you will be disappointed with the inability to overclock, as all new motherboards will disable non-k OC.

So bottom line, you won't be able to OC a non k chip

Bear in mind an important consideration. This is a Core i3 6100. The board may support both BCLK and multiplier overclocking, but the CPU will not have either of them with the new BIOS update Intel has mandated for all manufacturers to create.

So overclocking an i3 6100 is impossible?

It has to have a K at the end to enable overclocking-_-

Unfortunately, there is no Core i3 with a K at the end.

Yes. If the name of the CPU has a 'k' after it, it can be overclocked. That's why people say non-k overclocking. Get it? K is just a skew of different chips that support normal OC, but once intel found out about this, they rolled out a mandatory bios change for all motherboards

Owh...

Then what CPU for about the same price would you recommend, I want to overclock it to about 4.5Ghz at least

Bear in mind that frequency is not necessarily a metric for determining performance of a CPU.

I would recommend an I5 4690K, with a good aftermarket cooler or liquid

That is way too expensive
