I wanna install win 8.1 in my laptop with a boot drive.I have win 8 in my system already. Can I use the product of this existing win 8 to activate 8.1 from flash drive. The win 8 came with the laptop

I don't know if this is still the case because Microsoft could have fixed it by now, but back when I did this Win8.1 would not accept a Windows 8 key.
