So I was thinking about my system and not having any warranty anymore and that, just in case that would happen, if it breaks down I won't be able to buy anything new....well something but not a gaming PC. BUT I have a brand-spanking new PSU. Wow. I know.

Anyways, the point of my post actually is that I was thinking about selling my gear and getting something else for a small amount of money and do something like a minor upgrade.

Question is, what should I do? My system is in the description, but specifically I want to change my CPU and motherboard. I don't care too much about RAM, but depending on the "up"grade I would need new RAM, though I could settle for 8 gigs there to keep the cost down.

Option1: A xeon 1230v3 or 1231v3 and either a budget h81 or an h97 board.

Option 2: i5 6600k, MSI Z170 Mortar and some 2133 or better 8 gig DDR4 RAM (just nothing fugly)

Option 3: wait for Zen? I guess I could always wait for something new to come out....

Option 4: OC is nice, but really something like an i5 6500 is also very nice and enough for some gaming. (99.999999......% usage will be gaming at 1440p)

Option X: Shut up mapegl and keep your f***ing money and be happy with your setup and don't worry about 2500Ks breaking......they are invincible......or something of the likes

The reason why I came up with this is that my board apparently sells REALLY well on ebay. Anything up to 130€, which is awesome. That is more than I would spend on a new one. RAM could either be reused for the XEON or sold for an 8gig DDR4 stick and I would also not spend any extra money. The only thing is the CPU where I would have to pay something. That really depends on how much the motherboard and RAM will cost me and of course prior to that what CPU I choose. I really am unsure what to do. It is not like I don't know what the hardware can do, I am just looking for some ideas and what you would do.

Any suggestions are more than welcome. I am from Germany....just in case you have found the craziest deal ever for me. ;-)

So you're 100% fixed on selling your cpu and mobo (maybe even ram)?

If yes and you plan on doing it soon then depending on the type of workload you usually put on your system pick between the 6600k or a xeon, i5k for gaming and the xeon for streaming and all the other more productivity oriented things.

If you don't plan on selling your stuff right now then waiting is not a bad idea.

imo you don't really need a gpu upgrade at this point, unless you are gaming above 1080p and really need high settings and 60+ fps (you said you are probs gonna upgrade to a 1440p display but really if you will sell your mobo and cpu now then you need to get a decent cpu first)

If you're not entirely sure whether or not to sell your stuff now, the cpu is still usable. It isn't really bottlenecking the 290x to the point you would need something faster.

Hope this helped :)

Longboarders/ skaters message me!
