So I just bought a house and the first thing I did was spec out what looks to be a decent network setup. I'll be running Cat6 through to the office, living, and movie rooms. I originally was going to just purchase a run of the mill consumer router and call it day but my networking friend convinced me to go with Ubiquiti and so I did. Here is what I got:

Ubiquiti AP AC Pro

Ubiquiti Security Gateway

Ubiquiti Cloud Key

Netgear 16-Port Gigabit Switch

Arris Surfboard SB6190

Cable Matters 1000ft Cat6

I'll likely change the Netgear switch to a Ubiquiti switch down the road but I couldn't quite justify the price for what I need just yet. I also grabbed a patch panel and other random things to finish the job. The house is technically a 3 story condo, so there is some wifi congestion but it's not too terrible. I'm also aware that I could of skipped the Cloud Key and just threw the Unifi Controller on my RPi2 but this way I don't need to worry about it.

For those networking pros out there, how does this look? What is your experience with Ubiquiti? I don't really need anything too complex and from what I seen the Unifi Controller should cover pretty much everything I would need.

FYI been hearing some things with the SB6190. May be ISP dependent but the way it sounds is a compatibility with the chip-set in the SB6190 and the chip-set in some switches. The other option is the Netgear CM600. If your ISP plan is less then 1Gbps then the CM600 is cheaper with a faster CPU.

I'm sure both are overkill for my 150Mbps Comcast connection. I was just trying to get something that would last and I figured the more channels would do that. I heard the initial issues with the SB6190 were resolved with a firmware update back in Nov on Comcast. Interesting about issue between the modem and the switch. What kind of test can I run to make sure it's operating fully?
