2 Graphics Cards Eyefinity + 4th Display

I recently bought a Sapphire 7970 OC 3GB to use eyefinity with. I also plan on using a 4th display to use just as a normal internet browsing station. eyefinity isn't ideal to use "normally" because it will stretch your windows across all 3 screens. So my plan is to use my 7970 with a DVI<HDMI, HDMI, and DP<HDMI setup for eyefinity, while using a very old nVidia 6000 series card with a DVI connection to run my 4th display. The reason i cant run all 4 on the 7970 is because i ran out of internal clocks unless i want to spend money on a DP splitter, which is out of the question if i am able to just use this old card to run my 4th display. So, will it work?

First answer i looked in Google tells that you can use 7970 for 4 monitors. No need for the other GPU. Quote from the link:

"""

I have 3 monitors i use for eyefinity and a 32" lcdtv plugged in like this:
DVI->Monitor 3
HDMI ->TV
DP-Active DVI Adapter -> Monitor 2
DP-Active DVI Adapter -> Monitor 1
and i can use them all at once.

"""

EDIT: Didn't read the last line. If you don't want to spend money on the splitter try the thing you've planned. If you have the slots i don't think it would have problems working if you configure it properly.

I know it can run 4 monitors, but that's if the card has 2 DisplayPorts. My 7970 has

1x HDMI

1x DVI-D

1x DVI-I

1x DisplayPort

If i wanted to run four from my card, i would only be able to use a combination of 2 of the HDMI/DVI ports. So without a DisplayPort splitter, my card is limited to only 3 displays.

I installed my nVidia card into my system and was able to run a monitor off of it while running 2 off of the 7970 at the same time. I do not yet have the DP<HDMI adapter yet so i'm not sure if enabling eyefinity will cause this to stop working.

It shouldn't break if you enable Eyefinity. If it does , there is no damage done. It's kinda uncool , just checked the price of the splitter. 80$ for that. If the 2nd GPU thing doesn't work (which i doubt it) you can save up for the splitter if you think it's worth it.
