I need help deciding between an i5 or an i7, this computer will be used only for gaming! Also the parts that are marked purchased are the ones i already have.

i5 Link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fGxZt6

i7 Link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/T3Hf3C

Is it worth going for the i7 for $105 more so i don't have to upgrade later on? Or just get the i5 for now?

i7, hands down

edit: it's also usually more expensive to upgrade a cpu after the fact (thermal paste, cooler, etc) just get it now, no hassle down the road

It definitely is a better processor, but not worth the extra if you're just gaming.  Look up some comparison charts for FPS difference in gaming.

- ASUS X99 Deluxe - i7 5820k - Nvidia GTX 1080ti SLi - 4x4GB EVGA SSC 2800mhz DDR4 - Samsung SM951 500 - 2x Samsung 850 EVO 512 -

- EK Supremacy EVO CPU Block - EK FC 1080 GPU Blocks - EK XRES 100 DDC - EK Coolstream XE 360 - EK Coolstream XE 240 -

What i thought, money is not the problem, I was just wondering if it was really worth $100 more.

OH, with money not being the problem, I would never think twice, get the i7

Then again if money is not a problem, you should probably get an X99 with a 5960x and dual 980ti's and a fully custom rigid watercooling loop with 2 420mm radiators.

Depends on how long you plan to keep it and what you are doing with it.

If only gaming/mostly gaming:

If keeping for 1-3/4 years i5

If you are keeping it for longer i7

If you are doing rendering/video editing/streaming/CAD or other CPU intensive stuff, the i7 is totally worth it.

Also if you plan on upgrading to a pretty powerful GPU within the next year or 2 i7 as well.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I have no personal experience with either of these processors, I just remember comparing the two when I was thinking about going devils canyon.  Also 2-3 FPS maximum difference could be noticeable to the hardcore gamers, but I just really don't notice it that much to justify the extra $100.  I'm glad I wised up and went X99 though, because I honestly don't game that much.

I'm definitely planning on keeping this for a long time, My Mom is already hassling me about spending $1000 on a computer, so i rather spend it now so i don't have to do it later on.

Get an E3-1231 v3. It's basically an i7, just clocked a tiny bit lower and not overclockable. Still one of the processors with the best price to performance ratio, hands down.

I would get a 1231 but i would like to overclock since i have a Liquid cooler my aunt gave me for christmas. But hands down the 1231 is a good chip for only $20 more than an i5.
