GPU not booting

hi, 

This is my first pc build and im using an asus z170-a motherboard 6600k i5 processor but doesn’t seem to boot. i’v tried plugging the GPU in all PCI slots but nothing. When i remove the card from the pc it boots to the bios menu. I think this card is dead. What should i do?

did you hook the the GPU PEG power connections as well?

should be the PCIe slots..

i have VGA cables running into them

but you should also have 2x 6-pin power connections to the GPU from the power supply unit.

yes those say VGA on it

are you getting a VGA fail LED on the mobo with the GTX970?

boot to UEFI (using the mobo VGA). and restore defaults (F5) and reboot with mobo VGA.

verify reboot. then reinstall GTX 970 and retest.

what is UEFI?
