Best free Antivirus software

My friend and I are about to go about building his first custom pc, and I was wondering what the best free antivirus would be. I use a paid software, and he doesn't want to pay for his. Thanks

My Build: i7-4790K, 212 Evo, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3-1600, Intel 730 240GB SSD, WD Blue 1TB, EVGA GTX 980Ti ACX 2.0, NZXT H440 Blue/Black, EVGA 650W 80+Gold.

Most of the time, it's not the computer, it's the person using it.

Malwarebytes with Windows Defender + SmartScreen, if he's running Windows 10.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & Avast would be my picks.

Anyways, paying for Malwarebytes wouldn't hurt either, for the automated scanning and extra features.

Malwarebytes, CCleaner and your own brain. They're all free and they're surprisingly easy to use.

Panda Free-anti- virus. ZoneAlarm Firewall ( Free ) and malwarebytes free

That's not even remotely similar, but okay...  I'm just giving my opinion.  In the last 9 years of not using antivirus, I haven't gotten infected once.  But if you want my opinion, I'd say just go Windows Defender and Malwarebytes if you're paranoid.
