So I've sort of got a free night to mess with this, so lets overclock my cpu!

Ive never done any overclocking before so i know very little. so here is my motherboard, psu and ram models if it helps:

MSI Gaming 970 series AM3+

8g HyperX 1866 ddr3

750w EVGA NEX750B

any immediate suggestions for settings?

hyper t4, and a 200mm fan pointed right at the cooler

i would advise against overclocking with that cooler especially since amd chips cant take as much heat as Intel chips can

what i have on my board

Turbocore off

manual voltage for CPU and NT

NB LLC=Auto

CPU/NB frequency=  2200mhz

HT speed= 2600mhz

1.6ghz ram at 1.5v

use stock voltage for base clock until you need more power

use p95 for testing for 10-20 minutes and see if any cores fail or not, if cores are not failing then bump the cpu base clock multiplier

overclock generates extra heat and you need to stress test your cpu to ensure you have a stable overclock which also generates a lot of heat. so to be on the safe side i would not overclock the cpu now i dont know what safety mechanisms are in place on amd cpus but if you do decide to overclock you probably wont even get that much gain out of it before it gets unstable. if you had a noctua cooler or it was on water you might get a noticeable gain but on that cooler im not so sure

I'm using the stock cooler on my 8320....

the Hyper T4 is a better than the stock cooler, i'm sure it'll hit 4.3GHZ before 62C.

The Hyper T4 is garbage and only does ever so slightly better than a stock cooler. You will be pushing it to get 4.3Ghz before over temp problems crop up. I know first hand because I ran one, for a VERY short period of time.

Plus you will not be happy with the performance out of your FX processor if you play any games that require much CPU processing. I completely regret my 8350BE choice.

Most 120MM air coolers suck for FX 8xxx ocing anyway.

That's why i'm getting a a NH-D15 with some motherboard cooling(fans on heatsink and socket) on my M5A97 R2.0 board to get a 4.5GHZ OC.
