Hello.

I am getting ready to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 and I'm trying to prepare best I can. I've read that I should make a system image for recovery but i dont know how to do it. Guides I found online only tells me how to revert to Windows 7 when I have working Windows 10. I want to make sure I can fix my PC if something goes wrong during the installation and I can't boot into Windows. I have already copied my important files to an external hard drive, but I haven't created a system image. Could someone please explain how do I do this ? Also, I still have my Windows 7 DVD and my PC has one hard drive partitioned into two - one for Windows and another for files. I only copied files from the later one to an external hdd.

hi there

first after you do the upgrade you will need to do a clean install of windows 10, Use thier tool which can be found here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I don't really understand how this would help to protect my PC during the upgrade process.

If anything goes wrong you can do a clean install of windows 10, you do the upgrade first so that it registers with Microsoft's servers.

Oh OK, thanks :) But is it possible for the computer to fail during the upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 process? What do I do in that case?

Make the usb before you do the update, this way if it fails you can clean install. On the page hit the download tool now, then select usb and select your sub drive and let it do its thing, it will tell you when its finished

And it would still be a legitimate activated installation of Windows 10 even if it failed during the upgrade process?

No you would need to run the usb then select upgrade my system and run it through the USB drive, After it sets up to start, settings, update then the activation tab, make sure it shows windows is avtivated, if it does then do a clean install. For instuctions on that I can list them.

I think I understand now. One more thing - if for some reason I can't boot into Windows after the upgrade before doing a clean installation, can I use the USB to repair my installation? Would it still be activated in this case?
