So I was thinking of using a 128 GB SSD for my main storage, and nothing else. I was originally planning on using a WD Caviar 1TB drive, but changed my mind when I saw the Holiday Buyer's Guide 2015 and hearing Linus say that an SSD is still a must have, even for budget builds like mine. So do the advantages of an ssd outweigh the con of lower storage space. Does it really matter that much?

SSD's are great for speed, but lack storage. If you're only going to get a 128GB drive, that is nearly 1/10 of the 1TB drive you were originally going to get.

Your OS and programs if you have even a quarter of what I have will take up atleast 80GB of your storage, and that will leave you with so little storage that it won't be viable.

It is a much better idea to get the 1TB HDD and then in the next couple of months save up for another SSD. Then, you can migrate your OS and your boot speeds will increase drastically.

In my current PC i have a 128gb SSD on which i have just installed my OS and main use programs. All of my other files are stored on a 1TB Seagate hard drive. This is a pretty common configuration. It makes the system very snappy as the OS is installed on a fast drive, whilst you have a lot of cheap storage in the form of a hard drive (or multiple hard drives).

As you long as you don't need mass storage for lots of games, movies or whatever you please, a 128gb hard drive for your OS and main programs should be enough. Later down the road you can always buy a "cheaper" HDD to expand your storage. Hope this helps :)

I would definitely go for an SSD/HHD combo. So get a 240gb SSD and then hook up a spare HHD to store everything other than programs.

Here is a much cheaper SSD from Kingston that you might want to look at:

That's $20 more than the OCZ SSD, and a bit slower.
