okay so.. i have a logitech g430 headset, and an asus vg248qe monitor with like an audio type of io.. and I was wondering does the sound come from me plugging in my headphones into my motherboard io? or that audio type io on my monitor. if it's on the motherboard, then what does the audio jack on the monitor serve?

The green port on the monitor is a line in. You will need to run a 3.5mm cable (male-to-male) from your PC audio output to that green port. Then, connect your headphones to the black audio port on the monitor. It will act as a pass through and disable the monitors built in speakers.

so what you're saying is that I need an adapter to connect the audio port from my mobo io to the audio jack on the monitor? can you send me a link to that? and also my headphones has a mic line as well.. where does that go?

Those are generally a byproduct of audio through HDMI and most monitors featuring speakers.

They're meant for people who mainly use the monitor speakers but occasionally need to plug in their crappy headphones if they are making too much noise.  Don't worry about it.

The mic line would go directly into your PC's mic port (on the back of your pc)
