Upgrading an Apple G5??

So, a friend just PMed me asking is it worth upgrading an old Apple G5. Any thoughts?

 

He is a film student and we were planning on building him a machine that would allow him to run Davinci at home so he would work on his own projects while he is not working.

 

So, how expensive is the hardware? How hard is it to get? Is it worth all the hassle?

 

P.S: Built loads of PC's over the years, just never Macs so dont know much on that end

Nowhere near worth it. Sell it for parts if he has it and buy a nice x86 PC. Those cases are mighty popular in the Hackintosh community.

If it's a free gift, tell him to get it and part it out :P

 

People pay anywhere form $90 to $120 for those cases. And they are so clean looking.
