Hi.

I need to install some printer drivers for a HP printer on my Mac but it just hangs at the 'Writing Files' screen.

I did semi-install it earlier in the day and quit it before it was finished. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it but I really need this printer up and running.

Also, I can't just add it through AirPrint, I need the driver.

Thanks, Alpha.

Well we can't really come over and check what's wrong with your machine, so why don't you tell us what exact model of printer and Mac you have?

Have you asked your best friend Google to see if it might have a solution?

I would say if the printer had a disc, insert it. But newer Mac systems don't have a disc drive. You could probably contact HP support about it, they usually reply within a few days and help out quite a bit (I have an HP printer as well as 2 HP laptops in my home)

My Mac is a 2010 MacBook A1342 with 4GB RAM. The printer is owned by my school and I am installing printer drivers for it so I don't know the model number.

Yes I have, it returned nothing.

Yet again, the printer belongs to my school so no discs. My Mac does have a disc drive so I might contact HP support about it or I will take it to the IT guys at my school. Thanks for the responses!

2010 Macbook with which version of OSX?  Also, printer model numbers are shown on the stickers/labels on the printer.

Is it a printer on a network?  If it is, have you tried connecting to it via the printer's IP address?  You can go to the printer, in the menu and have it print out the configuration with the IP address.

I believe it is. I can connect to it no problems, it's just I can't exactly remember if it will work without the driver.

Yet again, won't have access to the printer for the next few weeks, just need to set it up.

Thanks once more, Alpha.

OK, well if you can connect to it, it should be no problem.  I use my MacBook Pro at work and they have HP printers connected over the network.  I don't recall ever having to install drivers.  But I guess this can depend on whether the printers are office printers mainly for documents or photo printers where you need to have the ability to customize certain settings to get optimized prints.

Major thanks dude! I really only need to be able to enable colour and duplex which it should do fine.

Once again, major thanks dude, you have saved my ass.
