So I built my own computer recently and i got windows 7 for it and then upgraded to windows 10. For some reason that I am not aware of windows 10 just freezes like the screen just freezes and nothing changes and i have to shut it down with the power button.

My Specs: i3-6100, gigabyte h110m-A, nvidia 580, kingston 240Gb ssd,ballistic sport 1 dimm 8Gb, and a evga 750b psu

If anybody has had problems like this please let me know how you fixed them. It is really annoying!

Things i have tried: resetting os thats pretty much it

How long did you have windows 7 running before you upgraded to windows 10?  What are you doing or how long does it take before the freezing starts? I'm much more inclined to think its a hardware or driver issue, but I guess it's possible there was a corrupt installation...

Since it is such a general issue at this point, my suggestion would be first to download some monitoring programs like CPUZ and GPUZ so that you can verify that everything you installed is registering correctly, running at the correct frequencies, as well as check your operating temperatures. If you are not able to do that before it freezes, then I suppose you should reinstall Windows 7, use it for a bit to see if it freezes with that, and then try upgrading again.

Also, and you could even do this first, check your device manager section to see if you have any yellow exclamation marks. Also, you want to double check your install and make sure all the pins are situated properly, fans are running, CPU fan is installed correctly, etc. Lastly, did you install all the drivers for your new equipment?

Hope this helps, but perhaps someone else will have a more efficient means of narrowing down the issue... GL!

Whatever operating system you prefer, it is just a way to narrow down the issue to whether or not it is the OS.  However, I would still suggest checking device manager, your install, and using the programs I mentioned to check your temps, frequencies, etc., first.

No problem, good luck :)

Okay so i found this software called driver max and it keeps your drivers up to date so i am going to try using it. I stress tested the GPU and CPU at the same time and am now going to try to stress test them both for a good hour

Did everything show up good in device manager (no exclamation marks or red "x's")?  This probably isnt the reason since you were able to stress test, but out of curiosity, but what temps are your CPU and GPU running at?  If you were able to get through stress testing them without it shutting down it probably isn't those, and more likely to be either memory or driver related.  If you haven't installed the drivers that came with your MB and the latest NVIDIA driver, do that. If you have, perhaps try doing a repair install of Windows 10 first.
