Need help upgrading from HD6950

Go to solution Solved by Starelementpoke,

Hey, looking to upgrade and have about a £150 ($200USD, $200CAD) budget. My 6950 has finally started to feel the strain of new games, but i can't come to a decision what i want to upgrade to. I've checked out the last few gens of both AMD and Nvidia cards and they both don't seem to touch the 6950 in any real way aside from the newest top end cards. I am maybe looking at a GTX 660, but that will end up being more of a sidegrade rather than a good upgrade.

I am only loyal to good bang for buck.

Current system:

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance LP 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600

AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor

AMD HD 6950 2GB

2x 24IN ACER K242HLbd running at 1920x1080

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Used 7950/7970. Might be able to get lucky and find a used 290 around that price.

I had the monster ASUS 6950 (takes up 3 slots in the back and too long to fit it most case) and recently upgraded to the MSI GTX 960 2gb and it plays all the new games without any issues.  I can run all the newer games at higher than the "optimized" settings that the geforce experience suggests with 60 fps.  I'm just trying to get by for the next year or so until they release the 7nm processors.
