to anyone who knows about their servers, what would be a more reliable/powerful/better server? the Hp DL380 G5, or Dell power-edge 1950 2, running the same core and amount of ram

Both are fine, both are the same.

I'd say HP from back in the ~2006 days was better then Dell, in terms of reliability, performance, features etc (dells was still good, HP was just better), but HP's website is the shittest thing in existance, even more so since the split to HP and HPE. having said that, I have changed my mind, go with the dell, you will be able to find the drivers on their website.
