I'm going to build my first computer soon, so just to be sure, will these parts work? Is there any part I should switch for better performance (at the same price)?

get the AMD 390 instead of the 970 id swap that PSU aswell, to something like EVGA 550W G2

These two are good. Only thing is I would get an s340 case instead of the spec 01. It helps to have a better case for your first build since it makes everything easier. Also gives you better upgrade options.
