not budget, mostly gaming and school next year for software editing

I meant budget as in how much are you planning to spend.

The cpu and ram are not needed if you are purely gaming on this rig. If you are using this rig just for gaming, go with an i5 6600k and 8gb of ram. Those will be more than enough. If you are doing heavy editing, go with an i7 6700k and 16gb of ram. You can choose to upgrade to 32gb in the future.

i5 4690k | MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G | Swiftech H240-X | MSI Z97s SLI Krait Edition | Corsair Vengeance Pro 8gb ( 2x4gb ) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 850EVO 250gb SSD & WD Caviar Blue 1tb HDD | Fractal Design Define R5

2500$ flexible though

You can add another 980Ti and a larger PSU if you want better FPS. For now, this would be best for your programming and gaming needs.
