how to improve within same price range

Go to solution Solved by Castdeath97,

keep the i7 6700k?

price isn't that big of a concern either with monitor i plan to spend 3k

Considering your workload get the i5 6600K. But, if you don't plan on upgrading after a long while get an i7 if you feel like you will get into tasks that require more than 4 cores and threads.

o.s- windows 8.1

cpu- intel i7 6700k
gpu- MSI gtx 970
motherboard- to be decided
power supply- SuperNOVA GQ series 650W gold modular power supply
case- graphite series 760t full tower case, white w/ window

for gaming i5-6400, hyper 212 evo, 2x8gb ram, and if possible bump up to 980 should be enough, if you are rendering/video work than there is not much i can help with on that front.

Nothing to see here, move along

i don't quite thing the ti variant is necessary for gaming, unless OP is going 4k, but even then I don't think it is necessary atm simply for gaming.

There's is no reason to get a locked processor with a cooler unless you want to pull a BCLK overclock. And if you do the i5 6500 has better value.

Yes exactly, I am on 1080p and I can game every single game ever higher than 60fps with just a GTX 980. No reason to get a 980 ti and sacrifice the ram, and cpu.

For 1440p 60fps ultra yes

If he is going for 1080p he is better off with a 980 yes.

The RAM literally does no difference to your gaming experience unless you have less than 8GB in current games. The CPU will give you better frame rates in CPU bound situations but not as much as a GPU would

Well this thread is quite useless because the op isn't very active, of course the ram would give no improvement if you aren't using it. just like hard drive space.

why would you care about more frames when you can already run every single game at higher than 60 anyway?

and maybe the guy isn't doing gaming only, he could be editing and rendering stuff.

For future performance/using above 60hz monitors/turning on more eye candy and such

And yeah depends on the OP and as per usual he isn't active.

if only light video editing, then you should go for 16gb ram, if noise isn't biggest concern , get the hyper 212 evo( its quite but not silent) and possibly upgrade gpu to 980 or r9 fury( fury has just had price lowered by AMD). i would recommend you keep the i7 though

For video editing an I7 is better. But it depends on how much editing you will be doing.

I do enjoy being able to record at full detail and then compress whilst gaming with no slowdown on my I7 980. An I5 would probably get overburdened with that.

Linus is my fetish.
