How does the AMD A6-6400K Stack Up?

Hello LTT Forums,

 

I am looking into building a custom rig for light-moderate gaming and video editing. I would like to use the AMD A6-6400K at 3.9Ghz but for $60 it seems too good to be true! How would that CPU stack up to say... an i5 at 2.6Ghz? I am quite clueless on how to find out so any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Sorry I mislabeled it as a CPU not APU. I think I might get a lightweight graphics card like the ASUS GTX GeForce 650 w/2gb. Also thanks for the link it is greatly appreciated!

If you are adding the GPU, get the Athlon 860K and a GTX 750 Ti or 950.

 

Whilst good for basic uses, the APU you've named does not compare to modern i5 processors.

Light gaming? Maybe it'll run CSGO.

 

And an APU for video rendering? It might work, as long as you can be bothered waiting hours for a video to render.

 

I dont have anything against building a cheap pc, but this is slightly too cheap.

I would recommend a 950 for GPU.

 

I used it in my friends rig and it runs Grand Theft Auto like a dream. And last time I checked it was only like $20 more than the 750ti which is a beast card for its tiny price.

It is the most you will need for anything you will be doing.

 

Also that APU you picked out has only 1 core
