Changing reference 980Ti to something else

I won a reference 980Ti (EVGA one) from a giveaway last year. Been using it ever since, but this thing does get loud and hot at load. I have been looking at the options whether to just replace the cooler or sell this and buy a new one with a different cooler and maybe even with non-reference PCB.

 

Design-wise, EVGA ACX 2.0+ cooler and Gigabyte's Windforce fit my taste. I am looking for your opinions - should I sell this card and get a new one (with custom PCB) or just buy the ACX 2.0+ cooler that EVGA sells separately?

Or why not liquid cool it with a Corsair HG10 N980 or NZXT Kraken G10?

Lisen, remember he won this on a giveaway. DIdn't buy it. Not everyone is watercooled or has the budget for it.

Dude, do you even know how either works? It's not custom watercooled, they use CPU AIO liquid coolers on the GPU itself.

I own a 970 G1 Gaming from Gigabyte and is quite noisy under load (it is still a little bit at idle, but the 980Ti one has 0 RPM mode so...), but it doesn't get above 60ºC even when overclocked and setting a custom fan curve could help a little bit with the noise. I think it still would be quite well cooled (of course, depends on your case too).

I did consider going full custom loop, but at this moment, I can not afford it yet.

Not only would selling yours for a custom pcb make it look better, it should offer more performance as you should be able to OC it further than the stock cooler. Plus it's a custom pcb, while the acx model is still reference.

Yes, will admit I was not thinking of AIO but AIO aren't that cheap. And when they are they usually are shit quality.

Well, still cheaper than custom water cooling loops and still works better than reference coolers at least.

I'll say my reference sc card with the hybrid kit on it kicks ass now, my max OC is 1503 and I couldn't be happier as most custom cards don't reach but ~20mhz further.

They are pretty cheap $59 for the Corsair one and if you want a bigger rad, the small one is fine as EVGA includes it on their cards and they run 30-40C max 100% load. Anyways there is also the GTX100i and that is $100

Just keeping this here as a Well, still cheaper than custom water cooling loops and still works better than reference coolers at least.

Yeah. It is cheaper. And it is a LOT better vs air coolers and especaily rference coolers, but it still isn't that cheap.

Looking at the prices, Kraken or Corsair bracket for AIO is like 30-40 euros+add the price of an AIO, whereas I could get the ACX 2.0+ cooler for like 65-70 euros.

 

My question is mainly - should I go for the custom cooler and mount it myself or just sell the card and go for one with custom PCB?

Also, if I'm getting it correctly, only EVGA FTW and Classified versions have custom PCB (apart from Kingpin and liquid cooling)?

I know that it's not fair. But if he would accept and be happy with the trade then would I still be "a bad guy"?

I guess he wont be happy with lower performance card when he has better one

They are pretty cheap $59 for the Corsair one and if you want a bigger rad, the small one is fine as EVGA includes it on their cards and they run 30-40C max 100% load. Anyways there is also the GTX100i and that is $100
