Is it okay to get a little higher UPS rating than what was recommended to you or is it essential to get the exact amount.

You can overkill your psu (power supply) as much as you want, the bigger the power supply the more you can add to your computer

Yes having a larger UPS allows for basically more expansion and long run time usually, what are your system specs we can get a better idea of what you need in terms of a UPS.

 

 

You can overkill your psu (power supply) as much as you want, the bigger the power supply the more you can add to your computer

 

UPS and PSU aren't the same, UPS (Uninterpreted Power supply) is a battery backup basically for your system.
