The problem: The microphone on my recently acquired HyperX headset isn't playing nice with my computer. I know that the microphone still works because when plugged into my phone via the provided cord I can hear my voice crystal clear. When plugged in my system can detect that something has been plugged in and switches from the built in mic to the line in.

I have checked all settings to ensure that they are unmuted and set at appropriate levels, and checked the cords to ensure that they are in fact plugged in fully, nothing can be heard through the mic. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the audio drivers to no avail.

A few times through this process I have plugged in the mic from my old headset, Turtle Beach X12, and it can be heard well enough without having to change any settings.

After digging through numerous forms and even contacting their tech support I cannot find a fix or even someone who is experiencing a common issue.

Computer Specs:

MSI GT70 Dominator Dragon Series

Windows 8.1

Realtek HD Audio Drivers

Nvidia 870M

Intel i7

Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

Do the headset speakers work with your computer?

Does another mic work with the computer?

Right click the speaker / mixer icon in your system tray and open the Recording Devices.

Take a pic of that w/ your mic plugged in.

So to clarify, that Mic that's showing up IS or ISN'T your headset? Because it isn't on right now.

Right click on the Mic and Line In and look at their properties. Where are the plugged in?

Does selecting the Mic as the default device help?
