I'm looking to upgrade the system I have on my main page. Currently I have a Core 2 Quad and 4GB RAM and I was wondering what my best option would be for a CPU upgrade. I have to have 4 cores as I use Adobe Premier Pro and it needs a powerful CPU.

I have an 800 dollar USD budget and already have an SSD and PSU I can use. Any help would be appreciated. Also, do I need more RAM for video editing? I currently use 4 GB so I'm sure that 8GB will be a huge improvement?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DktbBm

Also wondering if my graphics card will work well for 1080p video editing.

The Xeon will render better than a 4690k.  It has hyperthreading while the 4690k doesnt.

I already have all the storage I need. Will that allow you to do a better build?

Oh yeah. You might want to consider getting an i7 as the extra cores and hyperthreading could prove useful for editing.

Sorry, been out of the PC parts loop for awhile. What does "hyperthreading" do?

yeah, I got the overclocking chipset for my i5 with a water cooler.

Yes.   :P

OK, thank you. I've been getting the impression that an i7 will be better for me. It's out of my set budget of 800 that I'd like to stick to. Should I use a 4790 non K or a 4690k?

Adobe Premier editing 1080p footage. Will it be good for this?

That's it? No gaming or the sort?

If you're not overclocking then no it won't

Here: Xeon is better than i5 for video editing, doesn't need an expensive cooler.etc  I don't know if the R9 390 or GTX 970 is better for Premier so I took 300$ for whichever one you choose.

I also tried to keep the white/black theme, 'cause it looks nice

I mean I might play emulator games or the like but this is strictly for video production.

Something like this would be more appropriate: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8KjCGX

That's more expensive and worse than what I recommended.

I kind of like the black and white scheme though.

I appreciate your help though! Looks like you think I should get a lesser GPU? Doesn't Premier need a nice GPU?

A decent gpu with a good amount of vram is all that's needed to immensely help with Premiere. A 370 is already overkill. A better gpu can help but you're better off moving onto x99 before getting a better graphics card.

If you like black/white, this would be better: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8sTR23

Wow, that looks really good! Think I'll mix RAM colors and call it done.
