curious about how the points for Boinic are calculated. I've been in Boinc for about 12ish hours or so and ive made roughly 20k and have 30ish tasks pending for validation but i looked at the points im getting and its only 480 per. Is it like Folding@home where the first 20 or so are limited, then you get the full credit after? Just curious

There's no universal standard as to how points are distributed in Boinc.

For example, World Community Grid's stat pages shows 7 times the actual Boinc points granted, due to compatibility with pre-Boinc software. Most projects reward a fixed credit per WU - doesn't matter how fast and efficiently / slow and poorly your PC pc is, the credit is going to be the same. PrimeGrid is one example. And there are even some projects (GPUGrid) that have QRB points.

Check in on your specific project how points are handled.

Where would i need to check? when i click on a task i can go to their home page and such but im not seeing anything about how they do their points. Am i looking in the wrong area?

You'll most likely find this info on their forums..... somewhere. You can either research it on your own and try to find it or you can make a thread there asking how points are handled. Either way, their forums is the place to go.

thanks for the help. after digging on their forum i found it. every Wu they have is 480 whether your gpu or cpu does it. kinda weird since im used to folding@home where some things would give over 100k but ill try different projects to see if they offer more WU since to get a million WU from each one being 480 will take years

I notice you do Boinc, what projects do you do and what amount of Wu do you get?

Right now, I'm doing World Community Grid (check signature) for the CPU, trying to get my medal on the Ebola and the Fight AIDS sub-projects. Both have varying credit (and also varying run times as well). Used to do GPUGrid for the nvidia, but now I'm doing various beta testing for PrimeGrid - they are developing a new app, and need help testing.
