I need some help deciding on what CPU I want to upgrade to.

I am currently using an i7 2600k and I want to upgrade to skylake, I don't know whether I want to get the i7 6700k or i5 6600k for such a lower price. I am primarily using my computer for gaming but every once in a while I do use 3d design programs like blender.

Is the 6600k better than my 2600k?

Is the 2700k worth the money?

Well the 2600k isn't going to bottleneck 1080p, so just get a better GPU.

If you already have a beast of a GPU the 6600k is plenty for even intensive CPU games.

considering games use HT now, a 6600K would be the same OR SLOWER than a 2600K

I don't want to spend that much money especially since the CPU upgrade also requires a new motherboard and ram.

Right now I have a r9 280x but I plan to upgrade it to a r9 390.

I just don't know if the i7 is worth the extra money.

i7 2600K can drive ANY SINGLE GPU on the market. A 390 will be no issue.

280X didn't get rebranded so he can't do that.

I know I just want to future proof my computer, the 2600k is already 4+ years old, the only reason I got it was because I got it for free from my brother after he built a new computer, so it can be said the old parts are well used.

CPU development is stagnate. Until Zen comes out nothing really worth getting from either AMD or Intel.
