mofoboard im lost...

Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

Hmm okay. But do you have a recommendation for a MOBO? That would support the gforce 970

i have no clue on how to see if they fit.

All somewhat recently released motherboards come with PCIe x16 or x8 2.0/3.0. That's all you need for the 970.

I really need some help, im very lost.

I have a pretty old MOBO msi n1966. I resently bought a sdd (samsung 850 evo) then it accured to me: my motherboard does not have sata3, also it does not support more than 4gb ram.

So i think its time to upgrade. but.. Which one to choose!? I've watched hours of videos trying to explain, but i simply do not understand it... Im planning on buying a new graphics card aswell, but funds are tight so i will be later on. Right now my concern is getting a motherboard up to date. yet also one that can run my older components. I know im demanding :) My GPU is Ati Radeon HD 5700. CPU is AMD Phenom II X4 945 Ram is 2x2gb kingston ( i dont know if that matters).

So my prayer to you is, to tell me which motherboard would be the best for me. And still affordable, im planning on getting a gforce 970 later.

Im pretty new with this, so bear with me.

Thanks alot!!

Greetings Whiskeybender.

Return the SSD and rebuild the system from scratch

The components are dated. A max budget will help

afaik the phenom should bottleneck the 970

my mate tried to play rise son of rome on his rig with a phenom 2x4 and a 970 and it stuttered hard even without maxed settings

you should check for some decent h97 chipset motherboards and something like a xeon 1231 v3

edit: nice build @aneil1998

Lowering settings can actually further reveal the CPU bottleneck.
