Define R5 owners

Go to solution Solved by manikyath,

i have an R5 (with bottom drive cage), an RM750 power supply, and a 140mm fan in the bottom. with my power supply flipped fan side up (it runs fanless so its better that way) its "possible" but a REAL tight squeeze next to the modular cables.

so in short, i wouldnt go longer than the corsair RM750. (or in other words 180mm)

Looking at using the define R5 for a new build but had a question for someone that has the case.

What length PSU would I need to keep it too to use a 140mm fan on the bottom mount?

THe setup process is this to give more insight.  X99 build.  Running 5 140mm PWM fans (prolly the venturi fractal ones).  2 up front.  One rear, one up top (rest of the moduvents closed off) and one in the floor next to the PSU.  Run them off a silverstone PWM fan hub plugged into one 4 pin header on the mobo.  Both front cages removed with 2 SSDs in the back).  I want to do the 3 intake 2 exhaust so I can run it all off one PWM header and still have bit more positive pressure without needing to run it off 2 headers and setting diff fan curves for exhaust and intake to achieve slightly positive pressure.  I would go with the define S but this rig will double as a media center rig so I need the blu ray up front.

Cool so a 160mm seasonic should be aces.  Thanks a ton.

if you want to make sure, check if you have around 25mm clearance under the cables for the fan to go.

Yeah I do not have the gear yet ordering it maybe today but 850 EVO prices seem to have risen a little so I may wait another week and see if that changes again.

The seasonic 660w plat full modular PSU with the fan down the cables should run just over top the fan so I would have to route them fairly tight but would do that anyway.  The only obstacle that might be there is the hybrid / normal fan switch just eyeballing the PSU from the pictures on newegg.

fan down that should be perfect, you're not gonna be putting that thing fan side up with a 140mm next to it tho.
