hey guys,

I have a Sapphire Radeon 7950 Vapor-X OC (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202003)

I want to overclock it, but my questions are:

- What software is good to use?

- How far can I push it? (idle temp. is 40C)

- Is 3DMark a good benchmarks software (I have the advanced version)

Thank you guys :D

MSI Afterburner

A 7950 will hit 1200Mhz at least if you bump your voltages a little, I usually aim for an 85degree absolute max

Best way to validate an OC is by using actual games IMO. Some games also have their own built in benchmarking software which is also good for it. I try stay away from MSI Kombustor as a method of validating a OC

Thank you very much!

another question, what is a good game to benchmark? for a 7950? cause games like grid 2 is stable 60 fps so no difference in the results

I second both of marto's suggestions. MSI afterburner is a great tool to control your fan speeds as well to compensate for increasing voltages. However some games are more sensitive than others, and remember to always run 2 runs of Heaven benchmark at absolutely max settings. If it can't run that, don't even try games. (BF3 is especially sensitive to overclocks imo)

Games usually become unstable only after a longer amount of time. If you want to confirm an overclock quickly and play a game with it, run Unigine Heaven through twice. (However this might cause the game to crash in which case you need to increase voltage or decrease clock speed

Unigine Heaven download
