Is there a way when not using the computer like when the screens go off and its just left idling over night for the GPU to turn off to save on power and heat?

Or maybe a way to stick another card in the system and when its not needed have it switch over to that card for power saving purposes like laptops do with there integrated and dedicated cards?

Also topic name supposed to be Turn of GPU?
Sorry

They do that already its called GPU Boost 2.0 it lowers the clock speed when idle so it uses less power

I cant use GPU Boost 2.0 though as Gigabytes software is s**t and just strait up wont work, and when it does it will most likely stop working 5 mins later.

No. I read your signature though, and you have two cards in your system that feature the tech for low power consumption for idle use.

Also, not to just bring this up and start an argument or something, but I see your 750ti is giving you extra benchmark numbers, but how realistic is the difference in actual games?

xD tbh i never tested it my self in a game but rather i seen the 3D Mark score and i know from the internet that using a 750Ti with a 980 grants about 13% performance increase in PhysX games so im guessing mine should be around 10% give or take.

all gpus do it anyway unless yours is broken

Yeah my clock goes down but it still idles around 40c and if there is a way to have it switch to a different GPU to save on power and heat i would like to do it :P

Probably only makes a difference in CPU bound games.

gpu boost 2.0 is via driver and not user controllable , it'll auto boost the gpu clock speed as it sees fit based upon temps and voltages. if you don't like gigabytes o.c. utility use another one such as msi afterburner

Yeah i do use MSI... but set my own overclocks and power/temp limits..... dont know GPU boost to well tbh

overclocking with nvidia gpus is abit unusual as you have ato take into account that gpu boost will go up by x amount from the numbers you input (only for core clock)

But then how come changing my core clock my self changes my 3D Mark scores, cause wouldnt GPU Boost just up it to the same number or close to each time i tried?

it varies on many different things predefined by nvidia , i don't recall all of them. it changes your score because the gpu process faster  duh . adjusting the core clock manual just tells the gpu "you can go here under load" gpu boost goes "i think i can go even faster due to ____ being in the good" and then adds more core clock or takes a bit away.

So if i got rid of my overclock completely GPU Boost would overclock for me as needed??

Ah ok, Currently im running +100 on the core which is 1152Mhz according to MSI Afterburner but hang on... isnt the base clock like 1190Mhz on a 980Ti G1?

base clock on a 980ti is 1ghz , without manual oc mine boosts to 1205mhz , manual oc on mine is 1504mhz

considerable jump from factory parameters. and nopt to mention golden card

perhaps your drivers are at fault , attempt to reinstall (probably already suggested) and if that doesn't work then perhaps your card is faulty and attempt an rma or chat with your manufactures help line and see if they have any more solutions that any of us cannot think of

Ahhhh nah turning Vsync of in my game suddenly sees my clock go up to 1403Mhz so maybe its just always at 1152Mhz as more isnt needed for 60FPS

in that case , perhaps. the boost does limit power needed to keep a capped fps if i recall correctly

if i was you id go have a read on how it functions. there's an LTT video on it , and i believe nvidia themselves have a page explaining how it functions
