Please list down the specs of the pc. Fps drops are known to occur when recording with fraps. If that's the case, then you need to record the videos on a different drive than where your games are installed.

I am not recording just using it to monitor the fps 

That's weird. Something similar happened to me before. I noticed that two of the games that I was playing ( Dirty Bomb and Hawken ) caused my pc to slow down permanently unless I restarted it. I don't know about Hawken but my pc slowed down after one match of Dirty Bomb.
