i was watching this video

and started thinking about some other VR solutions and then i wondered why i havent seen anyone do some sort of sreaming solution where the game is rendered on a dedicated pc and streamed to a small weak laptop using something like nvidia game stream or the steam game streaming thing they have. It would get rid of the issue of cables, bring down the weight of an backpack solution a lot more and be a more seamless experience.

just thought id post this for a discussion and see what other people think :)

The reason why people may not have tried this is because of the latency it would introduce. Although potentially negligible, having had a chance to try the DK1 before, one of the things that stood out to most was how responsive the motion tracking was. The latency introduced by streaming could possibly degrade or even break emersion.

Again, this may be a non-issue, but just a thought! ^_^

Latency latency latency.  Anything less than perfect can introduce giddiness and motion sickness which will instantly doom all VR forever for the majority that experience these conditions.

Follow your posts!

If you're on a train ride streaming games to your laptop from your gaming rig or from the cloud to a shield device with no VR in either case, then sure streaming works well enough if you've a fast enough internet connection on both sides. But streaming VR? As other people mentioned, it introduces lag. And you know what VR + lag =? The shit-stain sandwich called nausea. You'll get dizzy, disoriented, and then throw your Gear VR and phone to the ground.
