New build, undecided with GPU (possible option Gigabyte GTX 970 Mini)

Already purchased:

Intel 4790K

Gigabyte H97N-WIFI

Ballistx 16GB (2 X 8 GB)

Fractal Design Core 500

Planned Power Supply Options

Corsair RM Series RM650 or

Silverstone SX600-G

CPU Cooler and Optical Drive

Still Researching (will be dependent on GPU size)

Storage

Samsung SSD EVO 500

Samsung SSD Pro 250

I am highly considering a mini GPU over the standard size. Would like to consider other options to Gigabyte GTX 970 Mini (which I can get for $330). $300 is dollars is really my max budget. So with that said; any opinions with supporting facts will be entertained. Also anyone's personal experience with the Mini would be appreciated. The system will eventually be a HTPC for the downstairs man cave.

Firstly, the Z97N-WiFi doesn't cost much more than the H97 variant, so get that for OC' ing.

Secondly, buy a R9-390. PowerColor, XFX, MSI, and Sapphire are your best bets.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W

If you aren't going to OC, get a non-K cpu to save a few bucks. I don't have experience with the mini GPU's but it will likely thermal throttle more than a full size one due to the smaller heatsink. A full size 970 should still be able to fit into most cases.

When in doubt, re-format.
