i7 4790k temps

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Just installed a 4790k. Everything is on stock right now, no overclock. I'm also using the stock cooler. Planning on getting a 212 in the next week or so. Tried stress testing it with Aida64 for a good 15 mins and my temperature on 100% load was about the mid 70s range. Is this a normal temperature especially when using the stock cooler?

I would say it's about right, not unexpected from the Intel cooler.

Also - I tried testing with Prime95 and the shit skyrocketed my temps to the low 90s. I did read however that there's some sort of incompatibility with haswell chips and prime95, is this true and should I be worried?

Yeah don't use Prime 95, it pushes the CPU far too hard giving unrealistic results. As for the hyper 212 you should be able to keep it fairly cool, it depends on the chip but maybe 55C on stock which will allow for a fair bit of overclocking.
