Help Installing windows 8.1

BAhern96

I am upgrading my lapotp with an ssd. I made a bootable usb following what is on the Microsoft website. When I was finished installing the ssd I put the usb in and powered the laptop up and clicked through the prompts and got a compatability report error. It read, "The computer started using Windows Installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade. [DO not select !custom [advanced] to perform an upgrade. !custom advance installs a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings"

What should I do to install it?
