Cropped Movie

stan92

Some movies that I watch on my computer have black strips on top and bottom, and some dont. Why is this? I'm running a 24" Asus 1080p (1920X1080) monitor...

say again please @coen113 i didn't understand

a different aspect ratio, not your native one. that is compensated for by bars, so you dont get streched images

A lot of movies are presented in a 2.35:1 aspect ratio and most monitors are 16:9 aspect ratio (or 1.78:1) and so the reason you would see black bars would be because the movie you are watching is presented in a different aspect ratio than what your monitor is which is 16:9 (or 1.78:1).

I realise somebody already answered this but I'm just trying to make it a bit clearer.

1.33:1= 4:3

1.60:1= 16:10

1.78:1= 16:9

2.35:1= 21:9

I've done a lot of research on aspect ratios because I love filming.
