Good Day,

I'm currently on my 3rd week with my first PC build:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ccDyGX
CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X 82.9 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus H97M-E Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 380 4GB NITRO Dual-X OC Video Card
Case: BitFenix Phenom M Arctic White MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply: SeaSonic EVO Edition 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM (64-bit)
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN881ND 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter

On the first week I proceeded with overclocking the CPU. I got a stable 4.1 GHz on 1.225V. Stability was tested using AIDA64 (without the GPU stress) 30-min runs.

In the span of 2 weeks, PC has crashed at least 4 times now. It happens randomly, one time I was just at the desktop. Another was while playing league. Other times I just closed an application/game.

Every time it BSODs, I increase the voltage by 0.005. So with that, it is now on 1.245V.

I'm now having second thoughts regarding the reason of the crashes.

BSOD says "WHEA_uncorrectable_error".

I have questions,

1.) Is it possible that the RAM would be the one causing the "random" instability? It is the only one not running on stock (except the CPU of course) versus the rest of the components.

As some may already know, the G3258 can only handle 1333MHz, so the BIOS automatically turned down the frequency into 1333MHz but also tightened the timings to 8 (stock is 10).

Before anything else, I've tested the ram with memtest86, but other than that, everything is tested using AIDA64.

2.) Tried to run a stability test (including the GPU) for 30 mins, max temp was 80°C for CPU, 76°C for GPU. Is this STILL okay? Ambient is somewhere above 30°C (no way for me to check). I only have 2 top intakes (stock case fans). I'm starting to think I messed up the CPU cooler installation.

It's funny how I keep asking questions that will only get answered if I do some more "testing" (e.g. adding fans, longer stability tests).

Nonetheless, I would like to get some insight before I do some more testing.

Would be nice to gather information first (and since I will be away from my PC for 1 week starting tomorrow).

1) The G3258 can handle more than 1333MHz, not sure where you got that information. Set your RAM to the manufacturers rated specs, you'll have to do this manually as I believe the Fury X kits don't have XMP. As for the CPU, your voltage is simply too low.

2) 80C for 1.245v is high for that chip, remount your cooler and replace the TIM.

Set the voltage to 1.3v once you have straightened out the temp problems and see if you can get it stable.

I will try to set it up to 1600 MHz. But, how do I set up the timings? I'm have not yet "read about" manual RAM configuration.

2.) Will do, after I setup another case fan for exhaust and check load temps. I think the airflow's having a hard time pushing all the hot air out since I only have 2 fans (and both on top intake). Also, with this fan config, the CPU cooler is getting choked off fresh air and just receives hot "used" air from the GPU. ahahaha. Until I get some cash, both GPU and CPU will just live thru the mid-70s FOR NOW.

Boards generally dictate compatible memory types/speeds.

Taken from my HWBot submission. DDR3 at 2400MHz. Run your kit at w.e. it is rated for, not running at rated specs is much more likely to cause issues, although your particular issue is not likely due to RAM.

Even with horrible airflow 1.245v hitting mid 70's is high, people run the stock cooler at 1.275-1.3v and can often hit sub 85's with the right TIM.

Re: RAM ~~~~~ The board can only handle 1600MHz overclocked RAM so I tried 1600. Won't boot, can't even get to the BIOS. "Overclocking failed!"

Re: Temps ~~~~~ It is high but AFAIK still safe right? I can still put off reinstalling the cooler don't have the time to open it up ATM. I've checked youtube vids on how to mount the 212x. Looks like I overdid the TIM. #sad

Your only option may be to use JEDEC (1333MHz), it should be available from the XMP options (probably the only one available). If it doesn't show up reset the board to factory defaults and JEDEC should auto-enable for the RAM.  Sorry I missed the H97 earlier.

Yes, those temps are still completely safe.
