So, I would like to build a NAS for home use with FreeNAS as the OS in the near future. I already picked most of the parts, but I am unsure about the case and the motherboard. FreeNAS recommends a server board from Supermicro, but that thing is 255 USD. Is it worth it? It will be on 24/7, but it wont be under a constant load. And the case is really expandable, but I will never need a space for 15 drives. So what would be a good case for 5 drives?
