So I thought my PSU had died a few weeks back, and I ordered a new PC, But I would like to use this as a NAS/Home server and throw in a few hard drives. So upon testing the PSU (paperclip test) it powered on fine, Great! but that means it must be my motherboard. I try and short out the pins on the power switch to no avail so I take my mobo out of my case and short these pins on my motherboard and the PSU powers on, but the system doesn't post.

6rKMEHq.jpgSo, could anyone more knowledgeable help me on this, my bets on the mobo thats dead right now, and that shouldn't be too big of a problem to replace (AM3+) and would be a big upgrade from the 3 SATA2 ports on it at the moment.

Try jumping the actually two power headers on the motherboard where you plug in your front panel connectors. I don't know but doing it that way may have fucked up your PC.

You might of missed it in the OP, but I already did that, There is also a weird waxy type stuff in random places on the back of the board, but I have no idea if that is related.
