Hi all,

My dad's laptop running windows 7 recently stopped booting. it posts and will arrive at the "starting windows" image (http://www.dedoimedo.com/images/computers_new_1/windows-7-install-starting-windows.png) but then it won't do anything. I have also tried to boot it in safe mode and tried to launch startup repair but it will load for a bit and then stop.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful.

UPDATE: My dad just bought himself a new laptop because the case was coming apart and the screen was all scratched. Thanks for all of the help

In order to create a Windows 7 bootable startup USB/CD (USB IS SUGGESTED) use this link:

http://www.howtogeek.com/191054/how-to-create-bootable-usb-drives-and-sd-cards-for-every-operating-system/

You will need to download a Windows 7 .iso image. (These can be hard to find, just make sure you get one that isn't virus infested)

(This link should allow you to download the ISO directly from Microsoft, but you will need to have your Windows 7 CoA): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

Then download the Windows USB/DVD Download Tool: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool#installation

Follow the step by step instructions in the Download tool.

Then instert USB into laptop and change your boot device so that it boots from the USB instead of the HDD

The only thing we have to fear is... Stupidity...
