Try copying installer off the disk to a folder and running

I was given a copy of visual studio 2010 ultimate, I keep trying to install it but the same thing keeps happening. After a while at "Installing visual studio 2010 ultimate" I cancel it because it hasn't moved and my optical drive sounds like a damn blender.

I've tried cleaning %temp%, running ccleaner, fixing reg errors with ccleaner, rebooting, running as admin, uninstalling everything that installed successfully, not sure what to do next.
