I have a system board from a xw8600 hp workstation with a pair of e5462s. When powered on, the system makes two beeps five times. These CPUs are not listed in the manual though the manual says 5400 CPUs are supported. Could the board be confused thinking this CPU is actually a x5462? The X-series processors require a five-pin fan that I don't have. I used the hp website and found this http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Aftermarket-CPU-HeatSink-for-Quad-Core/td-p/5077719 do I need to get a 5 pin fan or a different pair of CPUs?

Replace the fans with proper fans. HP systems are picky. I have an HP server, a dl360 G6, which I updated the cpu's in, changing from a single cpu to a dual CPU configuration. After installing the second CPU the system wouldn't even post without the additional fans when the second CPU was installed. It would beep multiple times and then shut off. Similarly, the notification pullout was telling at me to install the CPU fans before restarting the system.

I have the some 4 pin fans from some of my older computers that I am using. All the headers are connected. The CPU headers are 5 pin and I don't have 5 pin fans so I am using 4 pin fans here. Also, I don't get any video output at all with my gt620 or gtx750ti. Only a beep code 2 beeps, repeats 5 times

The BIOS may not allow boot with only 4 pin CPU fans. that 5th pin may be required to tell the system that it is okay to boot. I agree with Pattielipp, get the correct CPU fans for you system and try again.

The only thing we have to fear is... Stupidity...

I don't have enough saved up money to buy the right fans but, I found a diagram of the fan header and figured out that if I bridge the third and fifth pins, a four pin fan can be recognised as a five pin. The third and fifth pins are tachometer signals by the way.
