Hey! I have an old IDE HDD which just stopped working. I don't seem to find any problems with it though; I can hear it spin and I tested that the read/write headers are moving. Only problem I can hear is  that the HDD seems to be reading files over and over again, like they would be corrupted.

The drive doesn't show up on any OS's but does show up (with name) in BIOS. So are there any booting (ie Linux based) disk recovery tools I could give a try for? Thanks in advance !  :)

Hey there Digital,

What is the drive's brand and model? If the sounds that you are heading resemble clicking or buzzing then this might be an indication that the drive has a problem. I would try to boot from Linux Live CD and see if the drive gets recognized. If it does I would back everything up and check the drive's health status and S.M.A.R.T. status with a tool from the manufacturer.
If the data on the drive is important I would contact a data recovery company as this would be your safest bet of getting the data back. Do have in mind that their services can be quite pricey.
