Backup program for thumbdrive?

I have a couple of thumbdrives that I want to use as backup on important files, and store them somewhere else.

 

Is there a free program that I can password protect these, and so I can use them on any computer when I want, and not being locked to a program on a computer?

 

 

Or should I just put everyting in a winrar file and put a password on that?

Or is it easy to crack?

Sorry for the few off Capital letters in my posts, it does it on its own when I Write in English, since my OS is in another Language. It's annoying.

If they are the sandisk ones they have the software built in.
