Soo, im in need of a single camera in my apartment to monitor the door.

Something that can record only when there is movement, but i dont know jack about what type of software is out there :)

Iv got a server it can be wired to / wireless to, just looking for somebody with experience with these things :)

Nothing fancy, apart from maybe an alert to tell me when thers movement.

Iv not actually bought the camera yet, as i dont rly know if a specific kind is required, or if i can use a webcam.

You can buy little pre built boxes that achieve what you want (Record only when movement with a little light that flashes when doing so) and my dad picked up one of these boxes for about £30. You do have to provide a HDD or SSD or whatever but it works quite well. (Yes you have to provide the camera too).

Try out Ivideon... it's free and supports even webcams so no need to buy IP cams :)

But if you do decide to buy an IP cam check out Foscam
