I just timed my bootup and it was an entire 28 seconds? While this may have been super fast 5-10 years ago, in 2015 with windows 10 on a 250GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD I don't believe this is the best it can do.

What could be the issue? When i say 28 seconds i refer to the time it takes from the moment i press the on switch to the login screen so i doubt startup apps could be the issue right?

Some info that could help i noticed that there after the "ASUS" screeen and before the 'windows logo" screen there was a black screen with a blinking dash on the top left hand corner. What do i do?

Turn on "Fast boot" in your bios.

Not much. Turn off your computer and pull out the power cable then hold down the power button until the fans stop.

Then you can access the bios

hahaha i just went into my bios and apparently fast boot was already enabled

I'm assuming this is on the PC you've got in the description. If so, that kind of hardware really shouldn't be booting that slow.

Go to the support page for your motherboard and check for BIOS updates. Just in case there's some kind of fix (you'll know when you see it). If there's not a fix that will almost definitely solve this, don't update your BIOS. That would be a very unnecessary risk.

As for fast startup, it's worth a shot. But you should note that it must be disabled if you're going to dual boot Windows and Ubuntu (or possibly OSX, but i wouldn't know because why would anyone do that...). Fast startup should be enabled both in BIOS and in Windows (control panel -> power options -> choose what the power buttons do)

Okay let's try the boot order in the BIOS. Is it filled with a bunch of options, and have you got the correct one set first. For windows it should be "Windows Boot loader" or similar.

hmm it the boot order i noly have samsung or hgst, in which i dragged samsung to the top if that what you mean. I dont seem to see any "windows boot loader". I did however update my bios and timing  again i got 18 seconds. Is this considered fast? I see some youtube comments saying they got 7 seconds but these are youtube comments so im not too sure how reliable they are

edit: on reddit i see some ppl are getting 10-20 seconds on a hdd so ya im now pretty sure my startup time is relatively slow. what shld i do??

You updated your BIOS!!!! Did you read what i said???

Was 18 seconds a typo, or have we got this booting faster?

EDIT: Wow, I recorded a boot time of 26 seconds. To be fair my PC boots to grub (linux bootloader) and then to Windows. But, 18 seconds is still perfectly fine.

I know of nothing more that can be done. Unless you are measuring startup time from power on to when windows is useable. In that case, disable some programs in the task manager startup menu.

Nah I measured time from when I pressed the on switch to when the login window appears.

I timed it again and I noticed the one that really took up the most time is the time when I pressed the on switch to when the Asus logo first appears. It took a whole 7 seconds. Is that long? Lol
