Will this screw me over?

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

Use the Get Win10 to register your key for Win10. After that use checking tool to verify your current install.

Creating new volume means that you create partition for OS. If there already is partition, theses no need for new volume.

Hi, so about a few years ago, I was new to the pc industry, and let my cousin so all the software and stuff like that. One thing I remember is that when we were installing windows 8.1, in the part where you are meant to create a new volume, we totally skipped that. My computer runs totally fine right now, but windows 10 isnt updating for me, I want to do a fresh install of windows 10, downloading it and fresh installing it from a usb drive, but I read somewhere that you cannot enter in a windows 8.1 key into a windows 10 key. It said that windows will recognise my hardware and just let it update, but what if my system isnt on it because the volume was never created in the first place? I tried updating manually through their website and downloading the installer but it was stuck on the update screen. What should I do? By the way my "get windows 10" icon is still there and nothing is happening. and also the "check your pc" tab reports "report isnt available". here is my plan, help me see if they are worthy or not:

1. re download the tool that would give me windows 10. (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-upgrade?ocid=win10_wol_help_upgrade )

2. Download the fresh install pack and try to see if my system will update

3. cry

4. try and swap the operating systems between a computer with windows 10 on it

5. cry

6. cry some more

Thanks.
