4790k overclocking volts

Go to solution Solved by App4that,

I heard that anything over 1.3 volts can shorten the lifespan of your cpu, is this true even if im on liquid?

Define "shorten", I've been here awhile and have yet to hear someone kill a CPU at that voltage. Sure any voltage over the factory setting will decrease the lifespan, but will it die from voltage before it becomes irrelevant is the real question. I have everything overclocked, I even overclocked my iGPU when I used it. By the time voltage takes it's toll I'll be ready to upgrade.

Hey, i'm just wondering what kind of overclocks you guys are getting on your 4790k's. Please post voltages.

Mine is running at 4.6 on 1.25 volts.

haven't messed with it that much, just set the multiplier to 46 and voltages to 1.25, never touched it again.

Current Build: Core i7 4790k @ 4.6, Asus Maximus VII Hero, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400mhz 8gb (2x4gb), GTX 980ti, NZXT Kraken X61, Fractal Define R5  EVGA Supernova B2 850w, Some 300gb hard drive.

Mine ran at 4.8 GHz at 1.38v (got unlucky in the silicone lottery(

Not that good of an idea to keep it at that voltage, but I kept mine pretty chill so :P

You wanna try to get lower volts. The lower the better, and it also makes temps lower.

My old 4790k did 1.17v @ 4.6 ghz. @Lays is running it at 5ghz @ 1.335v

Any overclock will shorten a CPU's life. Max volts is 1.35v 24/7 on a has well, if you keep it cool and within well temps

by how much though? im only 14, it took me 8 months to get the money to build my system. I don't want anything failing on me for a pretty good while.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

okay thanks! just worried about killing my cpu. I dont want anything failing on me for a couple of years.

  Takes a lot to kill a CPU. GPU's are easier to kill and I've seen people do some crazy things to them. The closest to a accepted line in the voltage sand with Haswell I've seen here is 1.35v for daily use. Anything over that "could" impact the usable lifespan of the CPU.

BUT!!! The lower the voltage used the better.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
